Bryce Courtenay

Bryce_CourtenayBryce Courtenay was born in South Africa, studied journalism as a young man in London and then emigrated to Australia. Marriage and children followed, along with a highly successful career in the advertising industry that spanned over 34 years.

At the age of 55 Bryce Courtenay wrote his first novel The Power of One. This book became an international bestseller and was made into an equally successful film. Bryce is the celebrated author of over twenty popular titles with sales of over 10 million copies in Australia alone. His work has been translated into seventeen languages, including Japanese and Chinese.

Bryce Courtenay was made a Member of Australia (AM) in 1995 and honoured with a Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) from the University of Newcastle in Australia, 2005.

Passionate supporters of numerous charities, Bryce and his wife Christine lived in Canberra, Australia, with their beloved pets.

Sadly, Bryce lost his fight against cancer just prior to publication of this book. The Huka Retreats loses a beloved guest, and Alex van Heeren personally, a dear friend.
