Our inaugural Fishing Event last year was such a terrific success that we have taken up the challenge to present an even better one this year. Celebrity chef, author and passionate fisherman, Al Brown, is back on board for this year’s event, and has this to say. “I’m begging to come again as it just ticks every box in my dream department … lux accommodation, extraordinary food and wine, world-class service by super friendly staff. Then throw into the mix, some of the best fly fishing guides in the country, taking you to their favourite rivers to fish … what could possibly go wrong? Join us and find out for yourself!”
Our Fly Fishing event is held to honour Huka Lodge’s heritage, when anglers came from all over the world to catch the magnificent Taupo trout and enjoy Huka Lodge’s legendary hospitality.
This three-day angling event is dynamic and active, it also promises to be lots of fun, for a maximum of 50 guests.
The Chris Jolly Outdoors team of fishing guides provide expert, local knowledge and access to the best fishing spots in Taupo.
On your arrival day we provide individual casting lessons so you can work on your technique, with a Louis Roederer Champagne station nearby, to welcome you to the event. There will also be a fly-tying demonstration that day.
When you arrive back at the Lodge after your exciting days fishing, we have plenty of other entertaining activities planned for you, including a tutored Gin and Tonic Tasting. With so many amazing new botanical gins now available, along with a new wave of boutique tonic waters, we thought you would like the inside running on a selection of these.
Land Rover will be bringing some of their latest models to Huka Lodge for guests who would like to test drive.
Chef Paul, will be demonstrating his techniques for smoking fish and sharing his best tips to ensure the fish is moist and delicious. He will also team up with EuroVintage Brand Ambassador, Ben Longhurst to create a wine dinner for you, themed around wines produced from vineyards located in the World’s Best Fishing Destinations. It has been narrowed down to wines from the USA (Montana), Argentina (Patagonia), Spain (Pyranees), New Zealand (Taupo) and Australia (Tasmania).
Once again, there is a generous prize pool for the event; with luxury sporting goods from heritage brand Kilwell Sports (who represent Orvis in New Zealand), bespoke goods from Rodd & Gunn, Leopold Hall and an amazing day of fly fishing with a Helisika helicopter adventure. These will be presented to the lucky winners at the Prize Giving Dinner, hosted by Al Brown.
Join us in Taupo for some of the world’s best fly fishing, amongst the clean, fresh air and dramatic scenery of the Central Plateau. Return after a day of fantastic fishing to the luxurious amenity of Huka Lodge and the camaraderie of your fellow anglers, as you relax and unwind, while sharing stories about ‘the one that got away’.
