The Huka Lodge Big Red Dinner celebrates its 18-year anniversary and who better to host such an occasion than Stephan Walliser, General Manager, of the famed FROMM Winery, Blenheim.
This small boutique winery has produced distinctive, intensely-flavoured, classically-styled wines since 1992. It all started when George Fromm and Hätsch Kalberer met in the late 1980s and decided to establish FROMM Winery. George had an understanding of European viticulture as the fourth generation of his family involved in wine making, while Hätsch had made wines in Europe and with Matawhero Wines in New Zealand and as we know, the rest is now history. Since then FROMM Winery has established an international reputation for the quality of their wines and the passion for excellence continues. George Fromm has shifted his focus back to his family winery in Malans, Switzerland and FROMM Winery is now under the careful guardianship of family friend and owner, Pol Lenzinger and his Swiss business partner, the Walliser family.
At FROMM their ethos for creating great wines starts at the vineyard, with all attention focussed on the production of high-quality fruit. In order to achieve this all vineyards are closely planted and all shoot and fruit thinning, leaf plucking, and fruit harvesting is done manually to ensure exceptional fruit quality. The principles of sustainable, organic viticulture adopted by FROMM Winery requires a dedicated level of attention to detail and care on the part of the vineyard team throughout the journey.
The FROMM philosophy for old world wine making, with new world innovation, has created recognition and respect for their true expression of terroir and vintage. They have undoubtedly set new standards, with their exceptional full flavoured, big red wines – in particular for Pinot Noir.
During this fabulous Big Red Dinner, you will personally experience how the FROMM commitment to their wine making philosophy bears testament to a truly outstanding result. Introducing you to each wine during the course of the evening will be Swiss-born, Stephan Walliser, who came to New Zealand in 2017 to join the FROMM team, following a successful career in the luxury hotel industry.
Executive Chef, Paul Froggatt, with his kitchen brigade, will present five exquisite dishes to pair with these carefully selected wines – creating a FROMM Winery Big Red Dinner to remember.
