The central plateau, in the North Island of New Zealand, is one of the world’s most unique and spectacular destinations. Defined geographically, by the snow-capped volcanic mountain peaks of the Tongariro National Park (a dual status World Heritage site), wild tussock, green and lush wilderness, the crystal-clear blue waters of lakes and streams and the largest freshwater crater lake in Australasia – Lake Taupo. 

How to get there

Auckland is the gateway for international travellers, with flights arriving into Auckland, from Australia, several times a day. A simple transfer to the Auckland Domestic Terminal is a short 10-minute walk. 

Air New Zealand offers two daily scheduled flights to Taupo, flight time is 45 minutes in duration and Huka Lodge provides complimentary return transfers to and from Taupo Airport. Huka Lodge , Taupo, is a 3.5 - 4 hour scenic drive from Auckland or a 45- minute journey by helicopter, landing in the grounds.

Huka Lodge

Huka Lodge has enjoyed a location of great natural beauty, on the banks of the mighty Waikato River, since it was founded by in 1924 by a charming Irishman, Alan Pye, as a very simple trout fishing camp. 

This now legendary retreat, within 17-acres of magnificent grounds, has always offered a haven of privacy and relaxation, while defining absolute style for those who appreciate exquisite cuisine, attentive service and authentic experience. 

Favoured by many a celebrity guest, Huka Lodge proudly takes its place as one of the world’s best retreats – with its reputation and prestigious awards all richly deserved.

Guest Accommodation

Huka Lodge has just 25 Suites in total.

  • 18 riverside Junior Lodge Suites, all are spacious and beautifully appointed, with en suite bathrooms and generous dressing rooms.
  • One Double Lodge Suite. 
  • Two exclusive cottages, the four-suite Owner’s Cottage and the two-suite Alan Pye Cottage, offer the ultimate in terms of privacy and both have their own secure gated entry.
  • This does not include a small number of single-occupancy Escort Rooms suitable for organisers etc.

Rates and Inclusions

Rates may vary according to the season however they always include pre-dinner drinks with canapés, a five-course gourmet dinner, cheese board and petits-fours after dinner and full country breakfasts daily, during your stay.

Guests have use of all Lodge facilities and return transfers to and from Taupo Airport are complimentary.

DAY ONE

Arrive at Huka Lodge, settle in and orientate before welcome drinks in the Lodge Room.

Guests may like to enjoy activities within the grounds – like fly fishing lessons on lawn or an
in-room massage/spa treatment.

Pre-dinner drinks and canapés in the Main Lodge Room. Guests are seated for a five-course degustation dinner or may enjoy a more casual barbeque-style dinner.

DAY TWO

  After breakfast enjoy 18 holes of golf at Wairakei International Golf Course or The Kinloch Club, New Zealands’ only Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. 

Casual lunch within one of the exclusive private dining venues available.

Option of Business Session in the Trophy Room.

Pre-dinner drinks and canapés in the Main Lodge Room. Guests are seated for a five-course degustation dinner.

DAY THREE

Light buffet-style working lunch within Trophy Room.

Scenic Lake Taupo cruise in private launch to the Maori Rock Carvings with the option of trout fishing.

Half day fly-fishing expedition with Chris Jolly Outdoors, with one fly fishing guide for each two guests.

Event Venues

The Trophy Room

This room was designed for many configurations and can accommodate a large group of up to 20 guests boardroom-style or approximately 25 guests theatre-style. On site we have whiteboards, flip charts and a projector screen available for your use. Breakout rooms could include The Library, The Study or the Outside Terrace where you could hold one-on-one meetings.

The Lodge Room

For exclusive-use only, the Lodge Room is a wonderful space for guests to gather to relax and share stories of their day for a cocktail function or pre dinner drinks. With the panoramic views of the Waikato River and the cosy log fires, this is a richly atmospheric space, especially in the evening as the candles are lit, and the lights are dimmed.

The Cottages

The Owner’s Cottage and the Alan Pye Cottage both offer perfect venues for small planning sessions or business meetings with total privacy if required. Both cottages are also great venues in which to hold cocktail functions.
