Travel Tips

What to bring

Evening clothing is casual/elegant, ties or dinner suits are not required. A pair of walking shoes is a great idea and an outdoor jacket over the autumn/winter months. Pack golf shoes, sports socks and other recreational clothing for outdoor pursuits. Sunglasses help you cope with our clear bright light, a swimsuit for our swimming and spa pools (we have robes for you in your suite) and we recommend sun block cream for the summer months.

The climate in New Zealand is determined strongly by a marked maritime influence and is temperate. If you are visiting Huka Lodge in our summer months temperatures range from 17°C  the high 20s. The autumn months bring spectacular leaf colour and somewhat lower temperatures 08-15°C. Winter in Taupo brings cold temperatures in the evening, crisp clear days and relatively high sunshine hours 06-12°C. Spring brings our beautiful gardens to life, especially the bulbs and temperatures of 10-15°C.

With Taupo placed at 350m above sea level it is invariably dry, whatever the temperature.
