Enjoy panoramic views of the beautiful river, the cosy fire and dine at an antique table for two tucked into a private corner of this warm and richly atmospheric room.
A cosy book-lined room, with a table in front of the fire offers a high level of seclusion, suitable for 2-10 guests.
The Don Ryder Room
Private dining for 2-4 guests, with elevated view of the river – private and intimate.
The very first outdoor fireplace at Huka Lodge, now one of many, this area is very sheltered and can be used for semi-outdoor dining over more than just the summer months. Can seat 2-6, located just off the Main Lodge Room.
The Trophy Room
This room was designed for many configurations so can accommodate a large group of up to 20 diners or a table for 2 guests in front of the fire.
Two terraces also provide opportunity for an outdoor table for 2-4, also with river views downstream towards the Huka Falls.
This room displays a collection of taxidermy. These animals were hunted by an Invercargill doctor, while on safari in Africa during the 1920s, and the subsequent taxidermy work undertaken in London. They reference a time in history when this activity was not viewed in the same way as it is today. Please know that these trophies do not represent any endorsement on our part of this practice and that we support all conservation initiatives and attitudes that ensure the ongoing safety, protection and survival of these animals for generations to come.
Unforgettable – the chef is the best! Thank you Huka Lodge.
The Wine Cellar
A spacious underground chamber across from the Main Lodge, lined with fine vintages, can seat 2-10 guests within the central chamber.
On a flagged stone terrace, looking downstream to Huka Falls on the river, outdoor dining is available for 2 couples at two separate tables – divine in high summer.
On the bank of the deep turquoise-green waters of the Waikato River, the pavilion can seat 4 guests.
The clever use of a mirror ensures that whatever side of the table you sit on, you can enjoy the magical beauty of the river.
In the Grounds
A table for two under the stars, within 17-acres of manicured grounds, within a garden ranked as of 'National Significance', is always possible.
The private dining options often include a table near the magnificent water garden, while many guests have also enjoyed private picnics with delicious hamper created by our Executive Chef for lunch.
On top of the wine cellar is a small orchard of heirloom crabapple trees, providing a stunning display of blossom come spring. Here, two outdoor fireplaces, further supplemented by chiminea, you will find two canopied tables that can seat 2-6 guests.
We’ve travelled the world and Huka Lodge comes tops as far as we’re concerned! The service was second to none.
On outdoor ‘room’ with three sides completely enclosed by clipped green ‘walls’ comprised of evergreen hedging. Views to the river and chiminea to keep you warm ensure this is a perfect spot for 2-6 diners.
